The Canopy

Unused Space, Reconsidered.

A cooking surface when needed. An architectural surface when it is not.

The Canopy transforms unused cooking space into a refined extension of the kitchen. Handcrafted to order in New York from solid American walnut, it creates valuable additional surface area while bringing natural warmth, substantial construction, and quiet permanence to the room.

At approximately 1.25 inches thick, The Canopy has the presence of a built-in kitchen element while remaining practical to lift and reposition. Its restrained proportions, uninterrupted front profile, and concealed handling allow it to complement the surrounding architecture rather than compete with it.

01
Crafted With Intention

Designed As Part Of The Room.

The Canopy begins with a clean architectural silhouette and removes everything unnecessary. Solid walnut creates visual weight. A carefully restrained profile keeps that presence balanced. Integrated recessed grips provide function without introducing exposed handles or hardware.

Each piece is composed, shaped, sanded, and finished by hand. The result is not simply a wooden stove cover, but a furniture-quality surface created to feel considered from every angle.

Three Considered Proportions.

Each standard size is built with the same solid-walnut construction, integrated handling, and restrained architectural profile.

Refined Proportion

A carefully balanced proportion designed as a starting point for many standard 30-inch cooking surfaces.

A wider architectural surface created for larger ranges and kitchens requiring a more substantial visual presence.

02

Additional depth creates a more expansive surface for professional ranges and generously proportioned cooking areas.

These measurements represent the finished dimensions of the walnut cover. Appliance dimensions vary by model, even when two ranges share the same advertised width. Always measure the exact usable width and depth of the cooking surface before ordering.

Edge Configuration

Choose Your Canopy.

Two edge configurations allow The Canopy to remain visually restrained while serving the way your kitchen requires.

Uninterrupted Form

Clean Edge

The Clean Edge preserves The Canopy’s pure architectural profile. Every visible edge remains restrained and uninterrupted, allowing the walnut grain, proportions, and substantial construction to define the piece.

This configuration offers the most minimal expression of The Canopy and integrates naturally into kitchens where simplicity and visual continuity are the priority.

01
Discreet Protection

Integrated Drip Edge

The Integrated Drip Edge adds a low, raised solid-walnut dam along the rear edge of The Canopy. Designed as part of the piece rather than as an attached accessory, it creates a subtle barrier between the usable surface and the back of the range.

The raised detail helps prevent minor spills, crumbs, utensils, and other small items from traveling toward the backsplash or rear controls. It is positioned along the rear only, allowing the front and side edges to remain open, clean, and architecturally uninterrupted.

Its restrained height preserves the full usable character of the surface without giving The Canopy the appearance of a traditional tray or perimeter frame.

02
Concealed Handling

Made To Move Without Looking Movable.

Wide recessed grips are shaped directly into both ends of The Canopy. Their elongated form provides a comfortable and secure point of contact when lifting, placing, or repositioning the cover.

Because the grips are integrated into the underside of the end profiles, they remain discreet during everyday use. From the front, The Canopy appears as one continuous walnut surface.

03
Material Integrity

Built From Solid American Walnut.

Each Canopy is handcrafted from carefully selected American black walnut chosen for its warmth, strength, and naturally expressive grain.

The edge-grain construction creates long, uninterrupted movement across the surface while supporting the substantial character of the piece. A hand-applied food-safe finish enriches the walnut without concealing its natural color or texture.

No veneers, artificial wood patterns, or unnecessary hardware are used. What remains is the material itself, shaped with intention and finished entirely by hand.

The Board & Grain Concierge

Custom Is Always Welcome.

The standard collection is a starting point, not a limitation. Because every Canopy is made to order, custom dimensions are always welcome and remain an integral part of the process.

A custom Canopy can be created for nonstandard ranges, oversized professional appliances, compact cooktops, unusual depths, raised rear panels, tight cabinetry, or other unique clearance requirements. Each request is reviewed individually so the finished proportions feel balanced, intentional, and appropriate for the appliance.

Downdraft And Vent Review

When requesting a custom size, provide the desired finished dimensions, clear photographs of the cooking surface and surrounding countertops, the appliance manufacturer and model number when available, and details regarding raised trim, controls, vents, or other possible obstructions.

If you are uncertain about the correct measurements, we are happy to help. A few clear photographs and accurate dimensions are often enough for us to review the space and recommend an appropriate size.

Designed Around The Appliance

Measure The Surface, Not The Label.

Two ranges advertised at the same width can have very different usable cooking surfaces. The correct Canopy size should always be based on the exact area available rather than the appliance’s nominal dimensions.

Measure The Usable Width And Depth

Measure the exact surface on which The Canopy will rest.

Account For Controls And Raised Trim

Include rear panels, control housings, burner grates, hinges, and surrounding countertop transitions.

Keep Ventilation Unobstructed

Required appliance vents and downdraft systems must remain clear.

Care And Preservation

Made To Grow Richer With Time.

With simple care, The Canopy will preserve its natural warmth, tactile finish, and architectural presence for years to come.

01Wipe clean with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately.
02Do not soak, submerge, or place The Canopy in a dishwasher.
03Avoid prolonged exposure to standing water, direct heat, or extreme changes in humidity.
04Refresh the walnut periodically with a food-safe board oil or wax to preserve its natural richness and low-sheen finish.
05When not in use, store The Canopy on a clean, dry, flat surface.
Beyond The Traditional Noodle Board

Presence Without Excess.

The Canopy serves the same general purpose as the wooden stove cover sometimes referred to as a noodle board, but it is designed with a distinctly different intention. Solid American walnut, furniture-quality construction, concealed handling, a restrained 1.25-inch profile, and the optional Integrated Drip Edge distinguish it from conventional tray-style covers.

It brings purpose to an otherwise unused surface through natural material, considered proportion, and enduring craftsmanship.

The measure of a good fit

Measure the surface. Notice the details.

A range’s advertised width is only a starting point. Record the usable width and depth of the completely cool surface, then compare the actual cover dimensions.

  1. Measure usable width and depth between raised trim, controls and other obstructions. Do not assume a 30-inch appliance has 30 inches of usable support.
  2. Note the position of grates, knobs, rear controls, vents and downdraft equipment. Photograph the surface from above and from the side.
  3. Send those measurements and photographs through the custom request form if the support points or clearance are uncertain. Dimensions alone do not establish appliance compatibility.

SizeWidth × depth
Canopy 3030 × 22 in
Canopy 3636 × 22 in
Canopy 36 Extended36 × 24 in

Each standard cover has a 1.25-inch wood profile. Choose Clean Edge or Integrated Drip Edge on the product page; the edge treatment does not replace the need to confirm fit.

Use The Canopy only while the appliance is off and completely cool. Remove it before operating the appliance. It is not a heat shield or a surface for use over active burners.
